President's Message
As summer fades and fall takes over, change is literally in the air. Leaves are already beginning to change colors, the weather is starting to cool, and the apple trees are ready to be harvested. It is these changes that signal big changes in infection prevention. As autumn arrives, infection control practices must adapt to seasonal changes in pathogen activity, patient behaviors, and healthcare workflows. Some respiratory virus infections are already increasing in West Virginia. RSV and Influenza are starting to show up in our communities. We encourage you to promote your immunization programs to your staff, volunteers, family, and community.
Following our fall conference, October is World MRSA awareness month. It is a reality that affects patients, families, and health care workers every day. Behind every infection statistic is a story: a child whose recovery is slowed, a grandparent whose health is fragile, a clinician doing everything possible to protect those in their care. I know our work is not easy, but our efforts mean that countless patients go home safer, healthier, and more hopeful. We can stop infections through simple but powerful measures: hand hygiene, environmental cleaning, antimicrobial stewardship, and vigilant surveillance. So, I challenge you to embrace this season and shift your perspective to see change as an opportunity for growth and resilience in the ever changing field of infection prevention!
